HB = House Bill The lower the number the earlier it was introduced. House Joint Resolution H (Establish part time legislature ): Introduced by Rep. Jacob Hoogendyk, Jr. on March 20, 2007, to place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to replace the current full time legislature with a part time legislature that would meet for not more than 90 consecutive days each year, except if recalled on an extraordinary occasion. Legislators could not be granted any state-paid retirement or health benefits based on their legislative service, and their pay for those 90 days could not exceed 25 percent of the average for Michigan private employees. Legislators could only be reimbursed for actual expenses related to holding the office, and the total legislative budget in any one year could not exceed 1 percent of the state general fund. HB 4002 (Require audit MCCA) Introduced on January 22, 2007 by House Rep Steve Bieda. To require an annual audit of the catastrophic claims association. Referred to the House Insurance Committee. Committee has a hearing on this bill on March 1st. Support HB 4070 (Element insurance credit rating) Introduced on January 22, 2007 by House Rep. Opsommer. To stop insurance companies from using your credit rating to base your premium on unless you sign a release saying they can. Referred to the House Insurance Committee. Support HB 4098 (Allow voters to split their ticket in a primary election) Introduced on January 23, 2007 by House Rep Lisa Wojno. That is, to vote between Republicans candidates vying for some offices, and Democratic candidates vying for other offices. Under current law, one must vote in either just Republican primary elections or just Democratic ones. (The state does not subsidize primaries for any other political parties.) Referred to the House Ethics and Elections Committee. Support HB 4534 (Establish state "Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day" ) Introduced by Rep. Richard LeBlanc on March 27, 2007, to declare that the third Wednesday of each July shall be officially recognized by the government of the State of Michigan as "Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day". Marty Knollenberg on March 29, 2007, to end the post-retirement health care insurance coverage provided to legislators. Under current law, former legislators who have served six years get full health coverage beginning at age 55. Referred to House Government Operations Committee. Support HB 4601 (Require more extensive motorcyclist Insurance.) Introduced by Rep Gaffeney. Referred to the House Transportation Committee. Would require motorcycle insurance to include the same coverage as no-fault automobile insurance, including the unlimited medical claims insurance provided by the MCCA reinsurance entity. Would increase motorcycle insurance cost substantially. HB 4749 To Ride Without Helmet, introduced by Barb Farrah May 15. Must have a cycle endorsement, be 21 and older, 2 years riding experience or successful passge of a motorcycle safety course. Must obtain a permit from secretary of state at a cost of either $100 annually or $200 for a 3 year and have $20,000 in first party medical benefits. Passed in committee on 5-29 and awaits a vote in the house. Support HB 5098 Limit injury coverage for helmetless motorcycle riders Introduced by Rep. Bettie Scott on August 8, 2007, to exclude motorcyclists injured while not wearing a helmet from the unlimited personal injury protection (PIP) provided under the state no-fault automobile insurance law. Referred to the House Health Policy Committee on August 8, 2007. Oppose HB 5794 Repeal motorcycle helmet mandate Introduced by Rep. Richard LeBlanc on February 26, 2008, to repeal the mandatory motorcycle helmet requirement. The bill does not impose any conditions or fees on an individual’s choice to ride without a helmet.
